OVERVIEW
Land Conservation
The Lowcountry Open Land Trust protects over 88,000 acres of diverse lands spanning 13 counties.
Through the use of conservation easements, a legal tool that establishes permanent protection of and restrictions on the future use of a property, we help landowners protect lands in perpetuity.
Easements and Other Land Protection Strategies
The majority of the lands we protect are under a conservation easement, however we own almost 2,000 acres of highland and marsh that:
- Protects important and threatened natural communities
- Provides habitat for endangered, rare and common species
- Preserves water quality
- Protects agricultural and timber land, as well as historic sites
- Maintains the natural and rural character of the Lowcountry
