Ashley Scenic River Advisory Council

by chris — last modified 11:24 AM, 12 April 2006

ashleyriverIn 1998-1999 the Lowcountry Open Land Trust supported the designation of the Ashley River as a State Scenic River. A portion of the area, containing 26 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been designated as a National Historic District. In addition to historic significance, the Ashley River provides a diversity of natural habitats from freshwater forested wetland to salt marsh. Today, LOLT continues to participate as a member of the advisory committee, provide information to landowners interested in learning about conservation easements, and negotiate easements with landowners wanting to make the ultimate contribution toward the protection of this unique and historic area.
