These properties range from 1 to 6,300 acres in size and extend along the coast of the Lowcountry. Most of these lands are under conservation easement but LOLT does hold title to more than 1,800 acres of marshland near Charleston. These lands protect important and threatened natural communities, provide habitat for endangered, rare and common species alike, protect water quality and scenic riverfront views, preserve rural agricultural and timber lands, protect irreplaceable historic sites and structures and maintain the natural and rural character of the Lowcountry.

LOLT works closely in partnership with the coastal Focus Area Task Forces, which are semi-formal associations between landowners, conservation organizations and governmental agencies dedicated to promoting and coordinating land conservation efforts within their specific Focus Areas.
